Leuven, Belgium Exchange What wonderful and charming people our Leuven Ambassadors were. We all have great memories of their all too short stay. They arrived on time! And they were always on time as our hosts were. The exchange went very well. Up into the mountains and waterfalls we all went. Tasted some beer, visited a few artisans, petted the goats at Carl Sandberg's home and a tour around Asheville on the trolley. (The southern accent and fast talk may have been a bit much). Had some great beer at the Southern Appalachian Brewery and a talk on beer. Of course Belgium has 400 breweries! But they never bragged about that. The progressive dinners went off without a hitch. Great planning and presentation by all the people involved. Cheers and thanks to everyone. We had a great turnout for the welcome and farewell dinners. We learned some facts about Belgium and North Carolina thanks to Joe Robustelli's great quiz. Jack McConnell did a fine job of getting us involved in the square dancing, even threw in the "Electric Slide". (Bill W. we saw your great moves!) It was a great ending to a great exchange with the Leuven, Belgium club. We saw them off to their next stop, Raleigh. We have made many new friends……this is how Friendship Force works. |
